Meanings of the 8 Kootas (Ashta-Kuta)
These are the eight factors that sum to 36 gunas in standard Gun Milan. Tara is the same family of rules as South Indian Dina porutham; Vashya matches Vasiya.
Varna
Spiritual / ego harmony from Moon sign
Varna assigns a qualitative type to each Moon sign (often linked to Brahmin–Kshatriya–Vaishya–Shudra symbolism). It checks whether the groom’s varna is same or ‘higher’ than the bride’s for mutual respect and life goals.
